RCORP (Rural Communities Opioid Response Program)

The Coalition of Health Services, Inc. was awarded a grant by Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to offer an educational opportunity to serve the top 26 rural communities.

COHS received this grant to help fight and eradicate Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and Opioid Use Disorders (OUD) in the rural communities of the Texas panhandle. Our Community Opioid Rural Education Team (C.O.R.E.) has Certified Behavioral Case Workers and a Registered Nurse, that are currently utilizing a combination of ’Zoom’ meetings and travel, when Covid numbers allow travel.

This will include:

 Trainings and Education in signs and symptoms of addiction and overdose.

 Narcan nasal spray administration

When to seek treatment (Community training).

Training and treatment for individuals and families.

Resources for the Emergency Department staff to assist individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorders – regardless of the person’s inability to pay. The healthcare team can now call our resource numbers and receive help and be referred to the Texas panhandle’s O.S.A.R. (Outreach, Screening, Assessment, Referral) coordinator.

This Rural Communities Opioid Response Program is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as a part of an award totaling $1,000,000 with less than 10% financed with non-governmental sources.  The contents are those of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of, nor an endorsement by HRSA, HHS or the U.S. government.
