Gateway To Health Careers

The Coalition of Health Services serves as the fiscal agent and provides oversight to the Gateway to Health Careers project. In keeping with its mission and purpose COHS joined the collaborating partners of Gateway to Health Careers to:  to expand workforce availability for rural community healthcare employers of the Panhandle by increasing the number of area high school campuses offering Health Science Tracks. The Gateway program provides a combination of distance learning and clinic experiences for students that will clearly articulate a program of study in the Health Science Technology where students can graduate high school with an endorsement in Public Service through the House Bill 5: Foundation High School Program.
Students may obtain dual-credit from local participating Community Colleges (Frank Phillips, Amarillo College and Clarendon College).  Classes are recorded by a qualified and experienced teacher at AACAL and transmitted to rural school districts.  A Classroom facilitator is provided by the local schools and hands-on clinical experiences are conducted by the Mobile Simulation Lab teacher and a certified teacher will visit each school in a mobile van to enhance certification skills.
