My name is Maria Garcia.  I am the director for Uniting Parents.  I have been with Uniting Parents since 1994.  Uniting Parents is one of several programs at the Coalition of Health Services, Inc., a non-profit organization.

Disabilities are a natural part of our life and my family has certainly lived that life.  I have a degree in education and in counseling.  I was employed with Hereford ISD prior to coming to Uniting Parents.  I have three grown children.  My oldest has dyslexia and has attained a cosmetology license and has been a case manager.  My middle daughter is a registered nurse at a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, locally.  My son has Down Syndrome.  He participates in Special Olympics, volunteers, works, and loves music.

Uniting Parents uses a unique model where parents of children with disabilities are trained to be advocates for their own children and for the families they serve.  I feel honored to spear head this program with the support of the Department of State Health Services and the Children with Special Health Care Needs program.

Please call us for information and support!  We are here to share our experiences, our failures, and our successes.  You Are Not Alone.
